Solar works well in San Diego. A lot of sun. High power bills. But the roof has to be right first. Solar installation should never be rushed or treated like an add-on. We handle it the same way we handle roofing. Carefully.

Solar installation makes sense when the roof is in good shape, and the home gets solid sun exposure. South and west facing roofs usually work best, but every house is different. Shade, pitch, and age of the roof all matter.
We see plenty of homes around Spring Valley, La Mesa, El Cajon, and Chula Vista that are great candidates, but only after the roof is looked at first. If the roof won’t last, solar shouldn’t go on it yet.
Solar installation includes layout planning, mounting, wiring, inverter setup, and tying everything into the electrical system. Panels are placed where they’ll actually perform, not just where they fit.
Roof penetrations are sealed properly and flashed the right way. That part gets skipped too often. Because we’re also a roofing contractor, the roof side of the install gets the same attention as the electrical side.
Most residential solar installations take a few days once work starts. Some are quicker. Some take longer depending on system size and roof type.
Tile roofs take more time than shingle. Older electrical panels can add steps. We walk through timing before anything begins so there are no surprises once crews are on-site.
Sun exposure is great here, but heat matters too. Equipment needs to be rated for constant UV and high temperatures. Panel placement affects performance more than people think.
We also see a lot of older homes with roofing and electrical systems that weren’t designed with solar in mind. That doesn’t mean solar won’t work. It just means the install has to account for real conditions, not just ideal ones.
This is where problems usually happen. Solar installed on a roof that’s near the end of its life. Leaks later. Panels come off. Everyone points fingers.
We handle solar installation, roof repair, and roof replacement together. If the roof needs work first, that gets handled before panels go on. One company. One plan. No confusion later.
Solar installation in San Diego requires things like both permits and inspections. We handle that process and coordinate with the city and utility.
This takes time but it’s part of doing the job right. Skipping steps causes issues later, especially if the home is sold or the system needs service.
