What that looks like in real hardware:
A Tesla Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh — that's an upfront rebate of roughly $4,725 for a standard customer on a new system, or up to $6,750 for CARE/FERA households. An Enphase IQ 5P (5 kWh) earns roughly $1,750–$2,500. On top of that, the program pays $0.10 per kWh your battery discharges during weekday dispatch windows — your battery earns money doing what it does anyway.
Rebate amounts are set by SDCP (current as of September 2026) and subject to program terms and available funding — we confirm your exact numbers in writing before you sign anything.
How it works with us
- Check eligibility. You need to be a San Diego Community Power residential customer at a single-family home — we verify from your SDG&E bill in two minutes.
- Design the right system. We're a Tesla Certified and Enphase Certified installer, so we fit the battery platform to your house — not the one we happen to sell. Roof, solar, battery and electrical on one license (B, C-10, C-39).
- Install and enroll. As an approved contractor we register your battery in SDCP's program portal and enroll it in the virtual power plant for you.
- Collect. The upfront rebate applies to your project, and performance payments accrue as your battery discharges during weekday 4–9 p.m. windows.
The honest fine print
Five-year commitment: leaving early means repaying a prorated share of the rebate (100% in year one, stepping down to 20% by year five). · Your battery participates: during weekday dispatch windows it discharges up to 50% of its capacity — the other 50% stays yours, including for backup. · Solar-charged only: program batteries charge from your panels, not the grid. · One program at a time: can't stack with ELRP or DSGS. · Program terms are SDCP's and can change; your agreement and SDCP's Program Manual control.
Why a battery is the whole game in San Diego now
Under SDG&E's current billing, solar power you export earns roughly a nickel per kilowatt-hour — while power you buy back between 4 and 9 p.m. costs around fifty-five cents. Exporting is no longer the product; storing is. The SDCP rebate takes the biggest objection to batteries — upfront cost — and knocks thousands of dollars off it, then pays you again for the same evening discharge that was already saving you money.

- Probably, and that's normal — SDCP buys the power, SDG&E delivers it and sends the bill. Look for "San Diego Community Power" on your statement's generation line, or we'll check for you.
- Does my existing solar qualify?
- Yes — adding a battery to existing solar earns $250–$350 per kWh, as long as the battery charges from your panels.
- Will I still have backup power?
- Yes. Dispatch uses up to half your battery's capacity; the rest is reserved, and outage backup works exactly as designed.
- Which batteries do you install?
- Tesla Powerwall and Enphase IQ — we're factory-certified on both, so we recommend whichever fits your home best.
- When does the rebate arrive?
- Per SDCP's program process after your installed battery is enrolled — we handle the portal enrollment as your approved contractor and give you the timeline in writing with your quote.
