What happened, in plain terms

Solar Mosaic was the biggest name in residential solar lending. Over its life it backed more than $15 billion in home energy loans across more than 500,000 households — a very large number of them in California. On June 9, 2025, Mosaic filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Here is the part most homeowners actually need: in September 2025, Mosaic's loan servicing operations transitioned to Solar Servicing LLC, a subsidiary of Forbright Bank. Per the companies' own announcement, borrowers' payment terms and schedules remain unchanged, and the existing payment methods stayed active. In other words, your loan did not disappear and its terms did not change — the company collecting the payment did.

We are a roofing and solar contractor, not a lender, a servicer, or a financial advisor. Anything about your balance, your payment, your interest rate, or your statements goes to your servicer, not to us. What we can help with is the equipment on your roof.

The bind a lot of Mosaic borrowers are in

Mosaic did not install anything. It financed installations done by hundreds of contractors — and a striking number of those contractors are now gone. Titan Solar Power, SunPower, PetersenDean, Sungevity, Sullivan Solar Power, Freedom Forever, Vivint Solar and others all sold systems in San Diego County that were commonly financed through Mosaic.

So the position many homeowners find themselves in is: the loan is very much still there, and the company that installed the system is not. That is an uncomfortable spot, and it is more common than most people realize. It is also fixable — not the loan, but the part that determines whether the system is worth what you are paying for it.

What still protects you

Your equipment warranties usually survive. Panel, inverter, and battery warranties come from the manufacturers — Enphase, SolarEdge, Tesla, and the module makers are all still operating companies. Filing a claim generally requires a licensed contractor to diagnose the failure, pull the part, and complete the paperwork. We handle that legwork for our customers, and in many cases we can replace failed equipment at no cost to you under the manufacturer's warranty. Our inspection report tells us whether you qualify.

Your workmanship warranty usually is not so lucky. The promise covering roof penetrations, wiring, racking, and flashing came from the installer. If that company is gone, so, in practice, is the promise. That is the reality on the ground, not legal advice.

Your monitoring may have gone dark without telling you. If your installer set up the Enphase or SolarEdge portal under its own account, the alerts may have stopped the day it closed. Systems underproduce for months this way. We re-register monitoring under your own name so you can see what you are actually getting.

Making the system earn the payment

If you are financing a solar system, underproduction is not an abstraction — it is the difference between the loan paying for itself and the loan being an expense. That is the single best reason to find out where the system stands.

• A $399 solar and roof inspection report, credited toward your job — production audit against what the system should be making, wiring and connector inspection, and a look at every roof penetration the original crew made. In writing.
• Diagnostics and repair under an active C-10 electrical license — failed microinverters, optimizers, arc faults, rapid-shutdown issues, and the manufacturer warranty claims that go with them.
• Monitoring restoration — your portal, under your name.
• Detach-and-reset for reroofs — roofing (C-39), general building (B), and electrical (C-10) under one company, so one crew handles the array and the roof.
• Battery retrofits — adding storage to an existing array, sized for NEM 3.0 if your system is on the newer tariff.
