What the record shows

Bolt Roofing Co operated out of Jamul and Santee — East San Diego County — under CSLB license #519582, a license number issued in the late 1980s. That is a company with decades of history in East County, which is exactly why so many homeowners from El Cajon out to Jamul have its name on their paperwork.

On May 2, 2025, the Contractors State License Board revoked that license. The entry appears in CSLB's published list of licenses revoked that month, and the company's Yelp listings for both Jamul and Santee are now marked closed. Confusingly, its website is still online — which is worth knowing, because a live website is not the same thing as a licensed contractor.

One thing we want to be fair about: CSLB's monthly revocation list does not state the reason, and a license can be revoked for something as procedural as a lapsed bond or an unresolved judgment. We are not going to speculate. What the revocation means in practice is not in dispute, though: a contractor without an active California license cannot legally take on new roofing work. If Bolt did your roof

Your workmanship warranty now depends on a company that cannot legally operate. Whatever was promised about leaks, flashing, and workmanship has no licensed contractor behind it. That is the practical reality, not legal advice — if there is real money at stake, a construction attorney is the right call.

Material warranties are separate and usually survive. Shingle and membrane manufacturers — GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed and the rest — warrant their products independently of the installer. Some enhanced warranties required certified installation and may have conditions attached; the paperwork from your job tells the story, and we read it as part of the inspection.

If you have an open job or a recent deposit, document everything now — contract, payments, photos of the roof as it sits. CSLB runs a complaint process and, in some cases involving license bond claims, homeowners can recover losses. Start at cslb.ca.gov under "Consumers." That is the state's lane, not ours — our lane is the roof itself.
