Most of the companies in this directory disappeared. Milholland did not. In April 2024, Milholland Electric, Inc. and McKay Roofing, Inc. were acquired together, and both now operate as McKay Roofing and Solar. Same county, same kind of work, one company answering the phone.

Who Milholland was

Milholland Electric ran out of El Cajon from 1990, serving San Diego and Orange County. It did residential solar, commercial electrical and data cabling, roofing, solar cleaning, main service panel upgrades, and the detach-and-reset work that lets a solar array come off a roof and go back on. It was a SunPower Master Dealer and a Tesla Powerwall certified installer, with something on the order of 24,000 kW installed over its lifetime. That is a lot of San Diego and Orange County rooftops.

The Milholland website went dark in 2024 and has not come back. That is the part that confuses people: the name is still well known locally, the reviews are still online, and the phone number no longer leads anywhere obvious. This page is the missing signpost.

If you have a SunPower system, read this part

Because Milholland was a SunPower Master Dealer, a large share of its customers have SunPower equipment on the roof. And SunPower itself collapsed in 2024. If that is your situation, you are dealing with two gone names at once — the company that installed the system and the brand on the panels.

It is a genuinely awkward spot, and it is also one of the most common calls we take. We keep a dedicated guide for SunPower customers covering what happened and what typically survives. The general principle worth knowing: warranties written by the underlying equipment manufacturers often outlive the brand that sold the system, because those are separate companies still in business. Whether that applies to your specific system depends on what is actually on your roof, which is exactly what an inspection establishes.

About your Milholland paperwork — an honest answer

We are not going to make blanket promises about contracts we have not read. What we will do is look at yours.

Bring your original Milholland agreement, or send it over before we come out, and we will tell you plainly where you stand: what is still backed by a manufacturer and can be claimed, what is not, and what the work costs either way. In many cases we can replace failed equipment at no cost to you under the manufacturer's warranty — our inspection report tells us whether you qualify. A straight answer is more than most people in this position have managed to get, and it costs you nothing to ask.

What we can do with a Milholland system

• A $399 solar and roof inspection report, credited toward your job — production audit against what the system should be making, wiring and connector inspection, battery state of health if you have storage, and a look at every roof penetration the original crew made. Findings in writing.
• Diagnostics and repair under an active C-10 electrical license — failed microinverters, optimizers, arc faults, rapid-shutdown issues, and the manufacturer warranty claims that go with them.
• Monitoring restoration — if your portal was registered under Milholland's account, alerts may have gone quiet without any visible sign. We re-register it under your own name.
• Detach-and-reset for reroofs — the same service Milholland offered, and we hold roofing (C-39), general building (B), and electrical (C-10) under one company, so one crew removes the array, replaces the roof, and reinstalls the system.
• Battery and Powerwall service — diagnostics on existing storage, and adding capacity to an existing array. See our battery storage guide.
